30 Benefits of Whole 30

This past August I tackled my very first WHOLE 30. When she told me the basics; no added sugar, no grains, no legumes, no dairy, no alcohol, I almost spit my soy latte across the room. But then I realized it was an elimination diet, and truth be told, I’d been wanting to try one for a while. I’m pretty in tune with my body (or at least I thought I was), but I could tell I could use some help figuring out if certain food were triggering symptoms of digestive discomfort, pain, and well being. I took a deep breath, and told her I was on board.

Fast forward a few months, and I can’t imagine ever going back to the way I was eating before. This program is POWERFUL. I’ve been amazed at what the change in my diet has done for my mind and body. I wish I could jar the way I feel and pass it out as gifts this year. But since that’s not possible, I’ll at least share 30 personal benefits I experienced during, and beyond, the Whole 30.

  1. Significantly improved digestion (my motor is almost whisper quiet now)
  2. Improved satiety signals when eating (I know exactly when I’m full, and can easily stop eating)
  3. No intense hunger pains that make me reach for the wrong foods
  4. Improved gall bladder function (this problem child of mine seems to be a happy camper now)
  5. Acute awareness of how certain foods affect me
  6. IT band pain relief
  7. Psoas pain relief (I’ve had this since childhood, and just thought it was a part of life! It’s pretty incredible to have chronic pain just disappear!)
  8. Low back pain relief (hmm, I’m thinking some of these things may have been related. Again, this was pain I’d be living with for several years, and just accepted it.)
  9. Headache relief (I usually get a headache, often of the migraine variety, monthly, but that has stopped)
  10. Better periods (see above)
  11. Easier workouts
  12. Increased lean mass
  13. Fat loss
  14. Increased Flexibility
  15. New love of veggies (I thought I loved them before!)
  16. Far fewer sugar cravings
  17. Fruit satisfies sugar cravings
  18. New ways to prep food
  19. Finding harmony and balance in the foods I choose to eat
  20. Mental clarity
  21. Reduced anxiety
  22. More creative energy
  23. Improved sense of well being
  24. MUCH sounder sleep
  25. Energy upon waking
  26. A LOT of compliments from my friends
  27. Motivation to improve other areas of my life
  28. Thicker eyebrows (seriously, my sparse outer brows are starting to fill back out!)
  29. There’s a shopping spree in my future (all my clothes are too big)
  30. I’ve never been happier
