These days most of us aren’t surprised to be paying around $50 for a garment. But fifty bucks is a lot of money, and where possible, it’s always nice to pay less for a quality piece of clothing, shoes, or accessories. Welcome to the 50 under $50 series. For the next five weeks we’ll be bringing you 10 garments from a specific category, each under $50. This week we’re concentrating on spring dresses, since soon enough we’ll actually be able to wear these things without wool sweaters or tights!
Have you seen one of these convertible dresses in action? You can create multiple looks with it, and it can even be worn as a maxi skirt. Click on the picture to be directed to Nordtrom’s website, where they have a video that demonstrates the different looks you can create. Also available in solid colors. It’s labeled as a cover-up, seemingly for beachwear, but I don’t see why you couldn’t wear it out to brunch or to an outdoor concert. Might not be the best on cooler spring days, but as we head towards summer and temps warm up, this should see a lot of wear.
Very retro, with beautiful colors combined for a unique look. In fact, isn’t the standout color in that dress the Pantone Color Of The Year? I thought so. This dress would look totally chic paired with some gladiator sandals.
Beth has pointed out before that wrap dresses look good on just about any body type. So very true. And this deep royal blue faux wrap dress by Liz Claiborne will look good on many different skin tones, plus the sleeves will keep you warmer on cooler spring days. Keep the look super bright with some yellow jewelry, or soften it with a complimentary tranquil blue. Also available in a black and white print.
Full Of Flair Dress – $49.99
How completely adorable is this little dress? We’re loving the color and pattern combination. This would be a fun casual outdoor dress for a wedding, or even great for a Derby party!
Paging fans of geometric and tribal patterns… this dress incorporates both elements, but is done in a way that doesn’t completely shout. It’s also a flattering cut for many. This is one of those dresses that can look casual or a bit dressed up, depending on the shoes and accessories you pair with it.
Mossimo® 3/4 Sleeve Shirt Dress – $29.99
Depending on your workplace, this dress might not be quite appropriate since the shoulder panels are sheer, but perhaps if you wore a tank top underneath to cover your bra straps it would be ok? Regardless, we love the fashion forward style of this frock. It’s available in multiple colors, and even a pretty floral option.
Seersucker is a harbinger of warm weather, and it’s completely appropriate for any springtime gathering. This fit and flare dress is feminine, and can be paired with pretty much any other color you like.
This looks like it might just be the world’s most comfortable dress. Well, during warm weather. And if you’re packing on a bit of weight in the front due to pregnancy, this dress should allow for some expansion in a very stylish way. Available in white and blue, as shown above.
Here’s a great dress for spring. A flattering cut, and that long maxi skirt will help keep your legs warm on cooler days, and on warmer ones keep them from getting sunburned. This dress comes in five different colors; Purple Petunia, Black, Mountain Green, Cobalt Breeze, and Deep Coral. Something for everyone!
Flowers On End Dress – $47.99
Our last pick is a romantic floral dress from Mod Cloth. If you go out on a date wearing this, I think there definitely needs to be a picnic followed by a leisurely row across a lake. If you prefer a different color scheme, this dress is also offered in Sky and Black.
Next week we’ll bring you 10 Springtime tops under $50!
