This Friday is Valentine’s Day! Love it, hate it, it’s here to stay. A lot is made during this season o’ love about extravagant gifts, romantic over-the-top dates, wining and dining and spending. But if you prefer a more laid-back approach to the holiday, we have your back. Here are three casual ensembles that might be good inspiration for what you decide to wear this Friday night. They work for going out or staying in, hanging with the girls or seeing the mister.
Casual & Sophisticated
Art and About Top – $37.99; Modern Boot Cut Jeans – $89; Robert Lee Morris Silver-Tone Large Oval Drop Earrings – $28; Madden Girl Polyy – $47.99
This busy, pretty top is from ModCloth and features a paisley and flowers print. We suggest pairing it with sleek jeans, simple silver jewelry (so as not to clash with the complexity of the shirt’s pattern), and black booties that have a bit of sass but are still comfortable enough to walk in. If you’re worried about staying warm, pair with a dark green or light orange cardigan, either of which will pick up the colors in the shirt.
Trendy & Laid-back
Wear a flowing tunic (with southwestern detail) with leggings and add a red or pink cardigan in a nod to V-Day (this particular cardigan is more than 50% off at Ann Taylor). We also picked a fashion-forward buckle bangle which is available in gold or rose gold. Wear alone or layer with other bangles.
Fun & Comfortable
How cute is this pear print sweater from J.Crew Factory? I think this would be a good sweater to transition to spring, too, because of the lighter colors. Pair with black or grey pants (or denim). These studs are more expensive than what you typically see from BaubleBar but we love how they’re customized with the buyer’s initials. A really cute idea to take simple studs to the next level. These yellow flats will bring out the color in the sweater and the gold of the studs. Modcloth has so many cute flats right now; I also love these bright orange ones as an alternative to the yellow.
