TPGP Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat

I don’t believe bloggers when they call a beauty product miraculous. Maybe because every other product review I read is really positive–“you MUST buy this $45 lip gloss!”–and it seems impossible that every product out there is worth the money. So if you’re skeptical when you read this review, I don’t blame you. But honestly…this is a miracle product. The bane of my existence, vanity-wise, is (was) that I can’t get through a day without gray smudges adorning the space under my eyes. Even waterproof mascara does it. So I did not have high hopes when I bought the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat – $21. It was merely an act of desperation–why not give it a try for twenty bucks? Here’s the claim:

What it is: A clear topcoat that instantly waterproofs, refreshes, and protects any mascara all day, without drying or clumping. What it does: This advanced, lightweight formula glides on smooth, dries quickly, and gives your lashes a touchable, soft lacquer finish that lasts all day.

So you can use after applying regular mascara, to waterproof it. Or if you have been wearing mascara for four or five hours and you want to refresh it, you can apply. I’ve been using it to waterproof regular mascara. Waterproof mascara is terrible–it dries out quickly, gets clumpy in a hurry, and it’s a pain to remove. So I use my regular Maybelline Falsies mascara, let it dry for a minute, then apply three or four coats of the Anastasia topcoat. You can see from the photo below (where I have mascara and the topcoat on the upper lashes only), the topcoat doesn’t make a difference in the appearance of your mascara. It’s a thin coat that applies easily and you can’t tell it’s on:

The first time, I wore this product for three or four hours, then checked a mirror…no smudging. No flaking. Nothing. Hmmm….two hours after that…still nothing. The mascara looked as fresh as it had when I applied it, and it stayed that way all day. Removing it later that night was a cinch. It removed almost as easily as regular mascara. ┬áBut one use is not enough to evaluate a beauty product. I used it again. And again. And again, and every day since then. No smudging. The photo below was taken seven hours after I applied the Anastasia topcoat. I had been out and about, and just walked in the door. I took the photo without touching up my makeup at all, without wiping anything away from under my eyes:

You can see that my under eye concealer close to my lower lashes has since bit the dust and yet the mascara? NO SMUDGING. I still can’t believe that this product works–I’ve never ever found a mascara that didn’t give me raccoon eyes. I don’t know why it’s so effective but I’m having to restrain myself from running out and buying 100 tubes of it in case they ever discontinue the product.

Bottom Line: Truly the only miracle makeup product I’ve ever used–it coats regular mascara easily without changing the look, it removes from lashes without tugging or pulling, it prevents smudging and flaking and lasts all day. Worth every penny.
